The incredible has happened. The prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association has suggested the use of Chiropractic care for low back pain. JAMA has finally acknowledged what millions of Americans have known and experienced for over 100 years: Chiropractic works. Chiropractic is the safest and most clinically effective conservative care measure for spinal joint problems in existence.
How safe is it? The easiest way to determine the safety of any healing art is to find out what a health care discipline pays for professional liability insurance. Insurance companies have no agenda other than the management of risk, therefore a profession will have premiums that reflect its degree of risk. Chiropractors have the enviable distinction of having one of the lowest costs for professional liability insurance of any health care provider.
When hospital systems (such as the newly renamed Greenville Health System) are finally ready to embrace multidisciplinary care for the first time, many new patients will benefit from the improved outcomes of professional cooperation. It has already happened in larger cities such as Pittsburgh, PA, and Secaucus, NJ, so why not Greenville? I look forward to the day when we can point to our Greenville Health System and reflect on how it truly embraced its new marketing slogan: #modelofchange.
