Bike Fit Presentation
Tomorrow morning at 7:15 I will present to a group of sports medicine fellowship doctors at the Patewood facility of Greenville Hospital System. The topic of my presentation is the importance of appropriate bike fit for injury prevention. The end goal of this presentation is not to create a group of sports medicine doctors who can also fit cyclists to their bicycles, rather, it is to give them an appreciation for what is necessary for a proper bike fit. The interface between a bicycle and the bicyclist is all about contact points. The contact of the foot to the pedal(s), the hands to the handlebars and the saddle to the pelvis are the only points of change, however the various relationships between these points can mean the difference between a bike fit that optimizes power and performance versus one that creates injury. A physician who has an awareness of these issues can better diagnose and treat the injuries which can result from poor bike position.
