Sherman College

Sherman College of Chiropractic is the first chiropractic college to be established in the southeast United States.  The college was founded in 1973 and was named after chiropractor Dr. Lyle Sherman, an innovator and author who originally taught at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport Iowa (the first chiropractic college).  Dr. Sherman moved from Davenport to South Carolina in 1955, and established a practice in Spartanburg to be closer to the Blue Ridge mountains which he loved to visit.  Dr Thom Gelardi who was instructed by Dr. Sherman, and who also practiced in the upstate formulated a plan to open a southeastern chiropractic college. He requested that the college be named after his mentor.
