Are you suffering with back pain and looking for back pain relief?
In 2013, our U.S. Department of Labor estimated that 100 million work days are lost every year due to low back pain.
Causes of Back Pain?
Carrying kids on your shoulders, cleaning the floors, lifting, sitting all day at work, or a little extra weight up front, it’s no wonder that 80 percent of Americans will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives.
Whether it’s from a sports injury or a previous auto accident, when you have pain in your back, it means that your back structure ( the muscles, joints and vertebrae) have lost their normal ability to move and therefore cannot provide the necessary support to your spine.
Back Pain Relief!
How do you find relief for your aching back? Many people have become dependent upon pain medication, or simply choose not to participate in life’s activities which may make their pain worse. Chiropractic physicians focus on finding the cause of your lower back pain. The combination of a treatment called a spinal “adjustment” along with proper exercise or stretches are key parts of eliminating or reducing back pain. Include proper dietary changes and you are on your way to fixing your back pain safely and naturally in many cases for good, without having to resort to life changing surgery.

Study: Chiropractic is More Effective than Medication for Back Pain
There seems to be a pill for almost everything these days. We live in a convenient magic pill society where everything is solved by a tiny pill; it seems almost too good to be true. Sadly, it is too good to be true, and many people are facing severe life-altering repercussions because of these “magic pills”, especially the most commonly used pain medications. Lasting effects can include dependency, endless increases in dosages due to increased tolerance, liver damage, ulcers, and decreased brain function, to name just a few.
Let’s first discuss pain. The direct cost of lower back pain to American society has been estimated to be approximately 86 billion annually, according to a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. In fact, lower back pain is the most common cause of disability in people under the age of 45.
Health care practitioners have long debated over which type of treatment is the most effective for chronic lower back pain. A recent study, published in the medical journal Spine, has begun to put an end to this debate. For years the medical profession has demanded more evidence in the form of randomized controlled clinical trials demonstrating the effectiveness of chiropractic care for chronic lower back pain. The evidence is in, and what chiropractic patients and chiropractic physicians alike have known for decades has been demonstrated.
In the Spine study, 115 patients experiencing lower back pain for at least 13 weeks duration were randomly assigned to receive one of three interventions: medication, needle acupuncture or chiropractic manipulation.
One of the study’s most remarkable findings was that patients in the chiropractic manipulation group reported a 47 percent improvement, compared to only 15 percent for the acupuncture group and 18 percent for the medication group.
“In summary, the significance of the study is that for chronic spinal pain syndromes, it appears that spinal manipulation provided the best overall short-term results.”
Our office has experienced considerable success in relieving the cause of lower back pain. We use the state-of-the-art technology of computerized instrument analysis and adjusting to identify and treat the source of your lower back pain. Golf and Back Pain
South Carolina is golf Nirvana.
America’s first ever golf course was built in Charleston in 1786. Golf Digest magazine ranks South Carolina as one of the nation’s top golf destinations. Greenville county is home to some of the top golf courses in South Carolina. Because of these facts, we see lots of golfers in our office.
Golf and Back Pain
Golf and back pain seem to go hand in glove. If you live here in Greenville and golf regularly, you have probably already experienced back pain during or after your round. Why does all of this matter to me as a Greenville chiropractor? Well, four out of five golfers experience back pain or injury at some point while actively playing golf! This isn’t all that surprising when you consider the demographics of the average South Carolina golfer, with a median age of 56. Not only does golf involve the use of your lower back, it involves almost all of the joints in your body, especially the spine, shoulders, hips, elbows, and pelvis.
If you play golf, you know that experiencing an injury or back pain during a round of golf can affect your score. Even more importantly, back pain or injury can take the enjoyment out of the game. Back, neck, shoulder and elbow pain will interfere with any golf swing and impair your experience. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that my treatment can help alleviate golf related back pain as well as prevent future injuries and even help improve your golf score.
Golfers rarely consider the damage that the sport’s repetitive, twisting movements inflict on their spine and muscles. The two most important fundamentals of the golf game are joint mobility and muscle pliability. These two fundamentals are crucial for a good golf swing. Poor posture, lack of flexibility, and muscle imbalance can affect your ability to have a good golf swing and, down the road, can lead to degenerative changes or injuries.
Chiropractic treatment can prevent poor joint function and keep muscles balanced and flexible. When your body is in correct alignment this increases the strength, power, and precision of your golf swing. More importantly, keeping your body aligned will help you enjoy a pain-free and profitable game!
